Frequently Asked Questions
What is Leave A Light?
Leave A Light is an end-of-life consultancy service dedicated to helping you plan and organise your affairs with care and compassion. Our goal is to ensure your wishes are honoured and to minimise the burden on your loved ones during a difficult time.
What services do you offer?
We offer tailor-made solutions to cater to different needs and budgets. Our services include personalised end-of-life planning, document organisation, family communication plans, and ongoing support. Each solution begins with a complimentary consultation to assess your needs.
How long does the planning process take?
The time required depends on the complexity of your situation. Simple planning may only take a couple of hours, while more comprehensive services could take several sessions over a few weeks. We'll work at a pace that suits you.
Do you offer in-person or online consultations?
At this stage, all our consultations are online. If an in-person consultation is preferred, please get in touch. We’re happy to discuss options.
Are you qualified to provide legal or financial advice?
No. We offer expert guidance on end-of-life planning but do not provide legal or financial advice. However, we can connect you with trusted legal and financial professionals if necessary.
How is Leave A Light different from estate planning or writing a will?
Estate planning and wills focus on the legal and financial aspects of what happens after you die - who inherits your assets, who acts as executor, and how your estate is distributed.
Leave A Light goes beyond that. Our Legacy Kits help with the practical, personal, and logistical details that legal documents don’t cover. Where are your important documents stored? What should happen to your digital accounts? How do you want your pets cared for? What kind of funeral or farewell would feel most meaningful to you? What personal messages or guidance do you want to leave behind?
A will tells people who gets what; a Legacy Kit ensures they know where to find it, how to access it, and what to do next. It’s about reducing stress, avoiding confusion, and making things as easy as possible for your loved ones.
What happens if a loved one dies without a plan? Can you help?
While we focus on proactive planning, we can still offer guidance and support if a loved one dies without a plan in place. We’ll help you navigate their affairs during this challenging time.
Why should I create a plan with Leave A Light?
Creating an end-of-life plan ensures that your wishes are clearly communicated and organised. It helps prevent stress for your loved ones and ensures that your affairs are handled exactly as you want them to be. Although you can do this on your own, too many people don’t, either because they don’t want to think about it or think it’s something that can wait.
We think you should create a plan with us because we genuinely care, we’re methodical, and we offer the best end-of-life planning service available.
Our Legacy Kits include everything you may not have thought about.
What if I have a sensitive or complex family situation that I’m not ready to disclose?
It’s understandable that family dynamics can be complicated, and you may have relationships or situations that you’d prefer to keep private.
At Leave A Light, your privacy and confidentiality is our top priority. Any information you choose to share will be treated with the utmost discretion. We’re here to help you ensure that all of your loved ones are cared for according to your wishes, no matter how complex the situation may be.
If you’d prefer, we can discuss ways to handle sensitive matters discreetly, such as through trusts or other legal instruments, so that your plans remain private. You are never obligated to disclose more than you are comfortable with, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.
What does Leave A Light mean?
Leave A Light means taking action today to illuminate the path for others who may follow, ensuring they can navigate challenges more easily. It’s about choosing compassion and wisdom to remove obstacles, create clarity, and offer support that helps someone in need, either now or in the future.
We all encounter moments when life feels uncertain or burdensome, especially when someone we love dies. By “leaving a light,” we offer guidance and hope, making sure that others feel less alone in their journey.
Whether it’s through small acts of kindness or major efforts to support others, this mindset creates a ripple effect of goodwill. The light you leave behind may be the very thing that helps someone find their way through a tough time, overcome a challenge, or feel empowered to pass the kindness forward.
In a world that can often feel dark or overwhelming, choosing to leave a light is a reminder that we all have the power to brighten someone else’s path, making it smoother for those who come after us.
